Adria Vilanova Says No One Will Break His Father’s Record

Adria Vilanova, the son of  the late TitoVilanova, has admitted that he hopes no other Barcelona coach breaks his father’s points record.

Barcelona were able to match a record in 2012/13 that had been set by Real Madrid one year earlier by winning the LaLiga Santander title with an incredible 100 points.

“I think he made a difference by betting on an eleven of players from inside the club,” Adria Vilanova told La Vanguardia.

“My father [believed in] trusting La Masia, on those players who have spent their lives assimilating values and a way of playing. I’ll stick with that and with the 100-point league [title].

“Although it sounds a little selfish, I hope that this record will never be surpassed.”

There seem to be fewer and fewer players coming through La Masia and into the Barcelona first team, which is something that Adria Vilanova has criticised.

“These are difficult times. [Ronald] Araujo and [Oscar] Mingueza are having minutes, but then there is the case of Riqui Puig or [Carles] Alena,” he said.

“They are people who ultimately feel the colours and understand the idea that is proposed to them. They should have more minutes.”

Adria Vilanova is currently plying his trade for FC Andorra, the club that Gerard Pique owns, and the 23-year-old believes that the current Barcelona centre-back could one day be president at the Camp Nou.

“We know that he is good at all this stuff,” he noted.

“He is now running a club and managing it perfectly. We’ll see what he decides.”
