Busiro Vs Gomba – 12pm
Bulemezi Vs Buddu – 3pm
At FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
2019 losing finalists Busiro have done their homework and on paper, they have the strongest squad but they fall shot in experience. Gomba have the best technical department whereas 2016 winners Buddu have the freshest squad and they appear to be the most prepared of all four contenders.
Gomba and Busiro will face off in the first semi final at Fufa Technical Center in Njeru in the ongoing Masaza Cup.
Both teams – Busiro and Gomba – topped their respective groups and unbeaten from their different pools with 10 points and seven points in the Bulange and Muganzirwazza groups respectively.
Gomba is the most Successful team in this tournament and have won the title four times in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2017are out for a record of winning the fifth shield.
Starting in Muganzirwazza group, Gomba outcompeted Buddu, Kooki and Ssese to finish as group leaders with seven points.
They eliminated Bugerere when they won 2-1 in the quarter final to reach this stage.
They will heavily bank on their leading goal scorer Charles Bbaale who has so far scored seven goals in this ongoing campaign.
However, Gomba is likely to miss Juma Lutakome who got a knock against Bugerere in the quarter finals.
Gomba has arguably the most composed and experienced technical staff with former Uganda Cranes defender Ibrahim Kirya, Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza and David Nnono Ssozi all combining ideas to conjure decent results.
Gomba coach Ibrahim Kirya Says that,“We currently have one injury in the camp by names of Juma Lutakome but the rest of the players are okay.”
Ibrahim Kirya added on that ,“We are well prepared, but to me I think that the team that will have use their chances will take the day but I have prepared my players enough to conquer the opponents.”
On the other side, Busiro will be targeting to win their first ever Masaza trophy in history.
They were beaten by Bulemezi 1-0 in the finals that was held at Namboole in 2019.
In the ongoing tournament, Busiro topped Bulange group ahead of Busujju, Kyaggwe, Buwekula and Buvuma with 10 points.
They later edged Mawogola 1-0 in the quarter finals thanks to Kuteesa Malida goal to book a semi final slot against Gomba.
They will depend on their top players which include Gerrald Ogwet, Arafat Usama, Kuteesa Malida among others.
Busiro has former Uganda U-23 player Ronald Lukungu as head coach and his right hand man Bright Tadeo Nyanzi have proved their vast understanding of the game.
The Busiro tactician Ronald Lukungu believes it is time for the team to win the trophy.
“Our focus is to beat Gomba with maximum goals and go to the finals and win the trophy on the finals,” Lukungu confidently stated.
“These are the same players that were there last year when the team failed to beat Bulemezi on the finals, So I hope they picked and learnt some lessons on how to deal with such games.
“We have talked to these players, prepared their mindsets both mentally and pyschologicall and are ready for the match.
“We have been watching most of Gomba’s games and it is a side that concedes a lot of goals though they also score many.”
The winner between Busiro and Gomba will face the winner between Buddu and Bulemezi in the finals.
The final will be played this Saturday at FUFA Technical centre ,Njeru in Buikwe District.
