CAF Champions League Draw

CAF Champions League group draw has been held on Friday at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Uganda Cranes trio Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns have been pooled in Group B alongside Joseph Ochaya’s TP Mazembe and Salim Jamal Magoola’s Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan who eliminated Uganda Premier league side Vipers SC.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ appearance in this season’s group stage marks their sixth successive edition at this stage of the competition, which they last won back in 2016.

The other Club pooled in Group B is CR Belouizdad of Algeria.

Joseph Ochaya’s TP Mazembe of DR Congo have won the competition 5 times but have not Won it since 2015.

Salim Jamal Magoola’s Al Hilal Omdurman are 1987 and 1992 finalists but have not won the CAF Champions League and are still looking for their first trophy of the competition.

Last year’s Semi Finalists Wydad Casablanca have been pooled in Group C with Petro Atletico Luanda of Angola, Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa and Robert Ondongkara’s Horoya AC of Guinea.

Defending Champions Al Ahly who have won the CAF Champions League Nine times are in Group A with AS Vita Club of DR Congo, Simba of Tanzania and and El Merreikh of Sudan.

Simba is the home of Uganda Cranes Midfielder Taddeo Lwanga.

Match day one for group stages of the CAF Champions League will will kick off on February 12-13.

The CAF Champions League group draws in Full:

Group A: AI Ahly (Egypt), AS Vita Club(DR Congo), Simba (Tanzania) and El Merreikh (Sudan).

Group B: Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Al Hilal Omdurman (Sudan) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo).

Group C: Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), Petro Atletico De Luanda (Angola) and Horoya AC (Guinea).

Group D: Teungueth FC (Senegal), El Zamalek (Egypt), Esperance Tunis (Tunisia) and MC Alger (Algeria).

The draws of CAF Confederation Cup have been held on the same event.
