Bobi Wine is the current Ugandan opposition leader. His original name is Robert Kyagulanyi ssentamu. He was born on 12th February 1982 in Nkozi Hospital, where his late mother worked. He grew up in the kamwoky slum in North Eastern part of Kampala.
Kyagulanyi went to Kitante hill school where he got his Uganda certificate of Education in 1966, he also attended kololo senior secondary school where he was awarded his Uganda Advanced certificate of Education in 1998. He then further his studies at Makerere University in Kampala where he graduated with Diploma in music, dance and drama in 2003. In 2016 Bobi Wine went to study law at the international University of East Africa.
Bobi Wine is a musician, he began his music career in the early 2000s and this was where he was nicknamed Bobi Wine. He has released more than 70 songs over 15 years. Bobi Wine also owns a commercials production studio known as Fire base records. Bobi wine is also a film actor, mainly starring in local Ugandan movies.
Bobi Wine has also been participating in several charity and community service work. In 2012, he started a campaign to promote more cleaning in hospitals, sanitation, garbage management and hand washing to prevent diseases in the same year. He visited Bundibugy Refugee camp in Bundibugy District along with representatives from UNHCR
He served as a member of parliament for Kyadondo count East constituency. He is also a leader of unity platform Political party.He has gained increasing fame championing the victories in most of the by-elections by the candidate he campaigned for.
On 24th July 2019 Bobi Wine officially announced his bid to run for president in the 2021 General election. He joined the National Unity Platform Party in 2020 and was elected the presidential flag-bearer in the 2021 general election. He participated in the 2021 election where Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was announced winner, as result Bobi Wine and a large section of the public strongly reject the election result claiming to be the most fraudulent election.
