See how Yoweri Kaguta Museveni overpowered East Africa Presidents

LKenya, Uganda and Tanzania were the initial members of the East African community. Later, adjustments were made to accommodate Rwanda and Burundi. We all hear that Kenya and Uganda almost went to war during the reign of the late President Daniel Moi of Kenya and the current President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. This is what happened.

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

The Ugandan army led by General Okello had overturned the government from Milton Obote who was the then-president. There arose another movement by the name of the National resistant army led by Museveni. This army wanted to overthrow general Okello and rule Uganda. General Okello flew to Tanzania to request Mwalim Nyerere to arbitrate and end the war in Uganda. Later on, Mwalimu suggested that President Moi would be a good arbitrator.

Negotiations of power were moved to Nairobi, Kenya. Later after signing an agreement of peace between Gen. Okello and Mr Museveni, war erupted in Uganda, angering President Moi the more. In the year 1986, Mr Museveni and his army won the war and he became the president. This was the start of a poor relationship between president Moi and the new president Museveni. This is because Museveni had humiliated Moi by causing war in Uganda, yet the international community had already recognised president Moi for ensuring peace in Uganda.

In the year 1987, President Moi ordered a certain group of people to immediately leave the country. Later, the relationship between the two presidents continuously deteriorated as Moi never recognised Museveni as a president. What followed by President Moi ordering for Military tanks to be moved to the border town of Busia. Mr Museveni on the other side also ordered anti-aircraft and Ugandan troops to move to the Uganda-Kenya border.

President Haile of Ethiopia and Ali Mwinyi of Tanzania intervened to prevent war between the two sides. Mr Museveni and president Moi met at the border for talks. Later the situation worsened after Uganda dropped two bombs in Kenya. The situation was then cooled. The two countries have lived in peace thereafter.
