Shocking As Uganda ranked 14th below Kenya in Africa Military Strength

Kenya’s military strength has been ranked twelfth in Africa as the most powerful compared to its neighbours Uganda (14th) and Tanzania (21st) despite having less than half their headcount.

According to the Global Firepower 2021 report, Kenya maintained its position while its neighbours dropped from their previous positions. Egypt Algeria and South Africa taking the first three slots.

Kenya has 24,000 active personnel in the military while Uganda has 45,000 which is approximately more than half.


Arms stockpile in Kenya has 76 battle tanks, 131 aircraft, 17 fighter jets, 591 armoured vehicles and 61 helicopters among others.

While Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) boasts 240 tanks, 43 aircraft and 1,060 armoured vehicles. It is the only East Africa country with multiple – launch rockets which stands at 26.

Both militaries are in Somalia where they are fighting Alshabaab insurgencies in the war tone country under Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Kenya is currently en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo where they will work with the United Nations in a peacekeeping mission in the country that has experienced war from militias in the South Eastern part of DRC.
