Siverbacks Team For The Afrobasket Qualifiers

The Silverbacks Uganda men’s national basketball technical team has summoned 13 players to represent the country in the upcoming FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers (second window) that will take place from February 18-21 in Monastir, Tunisia.

It comprises of eight home based and five foreign players, taking the tally to 13.

Four players from the team of locally based players that have been training at Africa Bible University, have been dropped.

They are Stanley Mugerwa (Warriors), Innocent Ochera (JKL Dolphins), Ivan Muwhezi (City Oilers) and Peter Obleng (KIU Titans).

Only Stanley Mugerwa, of the four dropped, was part of the team that featured in the first window in Alexandria, Egypt.

Fayed Baale and Ceasar Kizito have made the final squad.

There is a new face in Arthur Kaluma who indirectly replaces Emmanuel Mugenga who got injured ahead of the first window.

The team that comprises of eight home based players and five foreign based players will depart for Tunisia onFebruary 4, 2021 for a training camp in the host city.

This will be the final window of the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 Qualifiers and the Silverbacks will be looking at booking a slot for the championship which will be held later this year in Kigali, Rwanda.

Uganda is drawn in Group E with Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde and currently is second in the group topped by Egypt after the first qualifying window.

Silverbacks will need to finish among the top three in their group to make it to the Kigali showpiece.

Silverbacks will be handled by head coach George Galanopoulos, who will be assisted by Mandy Juruni.
