The Weeknd Dominates the 2021 Billboard Music Awards




The Weeknd real names “Abel Makkonen Tesfaye” has won massively in this year’s Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) taking home the Top Artist and other 9 Awards.

The 31-year-old Canadian singer had a fruitful and successful year in 2020 after releasing his fifth studio album”After Hours” which attracted Global Charts and Digital records branching off Immortal hits like “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears” thus making him relatively fencing off the industry.

The Weeknd who held a number of nominations in 16 categories, convincingly swept the ceremony after winning a heap of 10 Billboard accolades, with the biggest of Top Artist.

He also carried with himself the Top Hot 100 song for his undisputed record-breaking single “Blinding Lights.” The song holds the record for most weeks in the Top 10 Hot 100 Billboard Chart for more than 53 weeks (1 year +)

In accepting the awards for Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Radio Song, Top R&B song on a televised show, The Weeknd excitedly invaded the stage and said,
“I’d like to thank my fellow nominees, it’s been a dark year, and you brought light and escape with your music, genius and brilliance.”

While reading his speech off of his phone, he added “you deserve this award just as much as I do, if not more.”

He also thanked his fans for streaming and listening to his music, thanking his team (republic records/XO) and his family for all their support in his music pass over the past year.

His special thankful message melted into a chuckle when he said, “I’d like to thank God that I don’t have to wear that red suit anymore.”

Hosted by Nick Jonas from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, the Sunday event saw P!nk being honored with the “Icon” Award and Drake with the “Artist of the Decade”

“I’ve spent an incalculable amount of hours trying to analyze all things I did wrong, but tonight for once I’m sure as hell we did something night.” Drake said, while accepting the award with Adonis(son) on stage.

Taylor Swift won for the Top Female Artist, Late Rapper Pop Smoke re-presented by Mother won Top Rap 200 Album “Shooting for the Stars, aiming for the moon” and BTS also won big, taking every category they were nominated for, that is Top Duo/Group, Top song sales Artist, Top Social Artist and Top Selling song (Dynamite).

The finalist or the Winners are based on “Key fan interactions with music including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and social engagement tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data.” – Billboard.
