Today In History Of KCCA FC

TODAY IN HISTORY!

Three years ago, today, KCCA FC made HISTORY as the first football club from Uganda to qualify for the group stages of CAF Champions League after eliminating Ethiopian giants St. Geaorge FC on a 1-0 aggregate to make history at the African continent on March 17, 2018.

No other football club from the Pearl of Africa has ever played  in CAF Champions League  group stages.

KCCA FC became the first Ugandan club to progress to the CAF Champions League group stage, thanks to Muhammad Shaban’s  47th  minute goal.

Forward Shaban  nodded in from a quickly taken corner kick by Mutyaba Muzamir who released Kizza Mustafa, the wing back whipping in a well calculated cross that found a floating Shaban who thumped home the lone goal of this tie and sending the crowd in a frenzy.

KCCA FC  piled  pressure from the onset,  Shaban the goal scorer coming close in the 4th and 6th minute but his effort went inches out.

Midfield maestro  Muzamir Mutyaba then burst into space and belted the ball towards the visitors goal but the custodian was equal to the task.

Referee Juma Otieno then handed St George’s  Mesfin Musalem  his first caution in the tie for a nasty challenge on Mucureezi in the 30th minutes and three minutes  later  Derrick Nsibambi too was cautioned for a foul.

After the resume, KCCA FC piled more pressure with rapid attacks and two minutes into the second stanza Mutyaba started a corner kick quickly releasing Kizza Mustafa who beautifully crossed in the box for Shaban Muhammad to thump home past the visitors’ custodian and setting the crowd ablaze.

10 minutes later Charles Lukwago was called in to make a spectacular save to deny Abubakari Sani  and to keep  KCCA FC just about a life.

In the 65th minute teenager  Allan  Okello  paved way for fellow teenager  Julius Poloto and the cameo immediately showed impact with direct play and rapid crosses that troubled the visitors defense.

Solomon Okwalinga and Kaddu Patrick were then brought on for Paul Mucureezi and Shaban Muhammad respectively to add on the home side’s intensity.

In the three minutes of added time, a sigh of belief could be felt allover  StarTimes Stadium, the players giving it all they could, also Charles Lukwago cautioned by referee.
