Having seen the worst in 2020 due to coronavirus, 2021 has been relative good year for Ugandan musicians as most have released great songs and amazing albums. In this article, we review some top Ugandan artists who stood out in 2021.
Having released a new album this year, the Big Talent boss is surely one of the Ugandan artists who made it big in 2021. He also won several local and international awards, an indication that his work is appreciated in and outside the country.
Sheebah is one of the most consistent female artists in the country. Her massive energy and talent always sets her apart from the rest. Some of her top songs this year include; ‘Boyfire’, ‘Yolo’, ‘Nkutuse’ and ‘Bwejoya’ ft. Namala among others.
Spice Diana has made a name in the country as one of the most strategic musicians. This year, she focused more on collaborations in and outside Uganda. Some of the top artists she worked with in 2021 include; Mbosso and Zuchu both from Wasafi records in Tanzania. She is also one of the most followed female stars on social media due to her style and talent.
Levixone has taken the Ugandan gospel music to another level ; winning numerous awards across Africa. He has had a couple of hit songs like ‘Mbeera’ which is one of the most played songs in Uganda.
Liam is one of the most talented young artists to look out for next year. Although he had been doing music since the Goodlyfe days, he got his breakthrough when he released ‘Omwoyo’ and ‘Bus’ that went viral on social media platforms especially TikTok.
She may not have released many songs this year, but her hit collaboration ‘Loco’ ft. DJ Harold and Nigeria’s Chike is one of the top songs this year. Her latest single ‘Akaffe Che’ has more than 700K views in less than a month since its release.
After having a successful 2020, Pallaso put in more work and we give it to him for being one of the few artists releasing songs back to back. He has released songs like ‘Mpa Love’, ‘Kiliza’ and ‘Baleke Abo’ among others.
Fik Fameica has released top quality bangers like ‘LovLov’, ‘Buligita’, ‘Lock’and ‘Majje’ ft. Azawi among others. He is expected to release his new album either towards end of 2021, or in early 2022.
Vinka went on a musical hiatus but came back with a great song dubbed ‘Thank God’ that blew the industry, putting her back at the top. The song has been viewed by more than 1.4M people since its release in September.
Ykee Benda is one of the artists that stood out in 2021 thanks to his ‘Kirabo’ album. ‘Kirabo’ is currently one of the most streamed albums this year. It has songs that include; ‘Obangaina’ and ‘Banange’ among others.
Most music lovers have crowned the Swangz Avenue signee as the top Ugandan artist of 2021. Swangz Avenue hit several milestones in 2021 including releasing her debut album ‘African Music’. Some of the top songs in her album include; ‘Slow Dancing’, ‘My Year’, ‘Ache For You’ and ‘Party Mood’ among others. Ugandans believe she will bring home the Grammys.
Other artists who had a great year include; Dre Cali, Karole Kasita, Zex Bilangilangi, Pia Pounds, Chosen Becky, Chris Evans and Zulitums among others.
