Uncertainty as floods kill 1 person cut off homes and roads

At least one Person has been killed and several others injured after floods triggered by the downpour ravaged Bulambuli district in Bugisu sub region.

According to the residents district commissioner Mr Stanley Bayole identified the deceased’s Milton Maku 63 a resident of Nandera village who had gone to collect grass for his animals in the end being hit by a landslide.

However the rain which lasted for 4 hours on Sunday triggered river Simu to burst its banks, washing away bridges and roads in Bulungaya, Bulago, Bumasaba, Simu and Buyaga town council.

In addition schools health centers and markets in the affected area were inaccessible and displaced about 100 families as well as destroying property worth millions of shillings.

Mr Charles Nangayi the chair person of Bumasaba sub county said the floods destroyed about 50 homes and claims they are in a mess and stuck on where to start from.

Majority of the affected people are homeless and are asking for the government for a quick relief.

According to Mr Michael Webaza a teacher Bumasaba SS said learners and residents can’t access Buwakadala sub county for services.

A one witness by the name of of Mr Wilson Wolinbwo  said the floods destroyed all his merchandise worth shs 20 million and other merchandise in a grocery shop been washed away.

Mr Simon Magayi the chairperson of Balugaya sub county said the most affected village include Mayolo , zesision , Sanga, Lusola ,  Kibaya Sources claim school going children are stranded and the sick can’t access health centers and are urging the government to quickly come for their rescue.

Ms Annet Nanduddu the Bulambuli district chairperson said they aren’t able to handle the disaster since even the environmental experts are blaming the disasters on environmental degradation coupled with the effects of climate change.
